Everyone’s London

A multi-million pound campaign in September will see an exciting series of specially-staged public events and one-off promotions backed by The Mayor, Visit London and Transport for London, encouraging Londoners to take pride, and part, in the very best that London has to offer.

The exciting programme includes street festivals in Regent St and Oxford St, an event to celebrate London hosting the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games and a unique cultural weekend.

Visit London has already got the ball rolling with many fantastic special offers on hotels, restaurants and attractions including loads of 'kids go free' offers and many more will be added over the coming weeks. So there is every reason to give big and little kids a treat and enjoy the best of the capital.

London in September

The month kicks off with a party in Trafalgar Square to celebrate the 2012 Olympics, marking the start of the preparations and honouring the bid team. This will be followed by over 100 fantastic events including the return of popular annual festivals and events such as the Regent Street Festival, City Showcase, Mayor’s Thames Festival, Brick Lane Festival and the Trafalgar Great River Race.

Cultural Revelation: Over 50 of London’s cultural institutions will stage backstage tours, workshops and one-off offers and events across the weekend of 17-18 September.

Regent Street Festival 4 September Marvel as one of the busiest streets in the world is transformed into an English country garden complete with grass, trees and flowers!
Tour of Britain 4 September The UK's greatest professional cycle race reaches its climax with 45 1-mile laps around the centre of London. There will also be races for spectators, who are encouraged to bring their bikes along.
City Showcase 5-9 September Discover London's hottest new talent from the music and fashion world first at City Showcase. See free daytime performances in retail venues around London , and evening gigs at various venues. Recent acts that have launched their careers here include Keane, Razorlight and Amy Winehouse.
Brick Lane Festival 11 September Visit the vibrant Brick Lane Festival, where you can hear music from some of Britain 's top Asian bands and DJs, and enjoy one of the area's famous curries served al fresco at a pavement cafe.
London Design Festival 15-30 September London has some of the most exciting and innovative design talent in the world. All over the capital, you'll get a chance to see what they can do across a whole range of disciplines from architecture and furniture design to textiles and graphic design.
The Thames Nelson Flotilla 16 September A symbolic re-enactment of Nelson's grand send-off, to mark the 200 th anniversary of his death. The event will assemble the longest procession of boats seen on the River Thames in modern times.
Trafalgar River Race 17 September A 22-mile race from Richmond to Greenwich, known as the 'Marathon of the Thames'. This is a truly international event with crews coming from all over the world, including a 54-foot replica of a Bronze Age Greek galley and the world's oldest racing rowing boat.
Mayor's Thames Festival 17-18 September Experience a whole series of sensational events along the River Thames, including 'Night Carnival' featuring 2000 performers in illuminated costumes, lanterns and amazing floats, and 'Alight Night' with stunning projections, illuminations and music.
Open House 17-18 September A chance to explore hundreds of beautiful buildings, many of which aren't normally open to the public, including government buildings, contemporary offices, private homes, city banks and industrial sites.
Greenwich Car Free Festival 18 September Enjoy wandering around Greenwich without worrying about traffic. A great day out for all the family with street performances, kids activities, and an opportunity to see the sights in this historic part of London including the Cutty Sark and the National Maritime Museum.
The Cultural Revelation 17-18 September On Saturday 17th & 18th September, you can go behind the scenes in London & participate in an amazing range of once-in-a-lifetime activities. From dancing with ballet professionals & singing on one of London's most famous stages to discovering your family history, you won't want to miss out.
